Unlike the wonderful last year fairy tale “The Ickabog” the “Christmas Pig” is a very sinister story about a lost toy. It is made more weird by the black and white illustrations by Jim Field which create an atmosphere of danger and doom. I would not have read the story to a young child.

The topic is age old: If kids do not care or lose their toys, these have a terrible fate and it is only by love and care that they can be saved. And so little Jack has to undergo an ordeal before he finds out, what true love really is.

Sorry, but I have to say goodbye to Rowling and her interpretation of what fairy tales are about.
