Bryson Bill

Shakespeare

Harper Perennial, London 2008

Galbraith3

In his inimitably charming way Bryson here talks about one of the greatest authors of all times and of the sad fact that hardly anything substantial is known about him, apart from his works, and even there his authorship is challenged by the chosen few.

Bryson sorts through all the myths and riddles surrounding Shakespeare the man and author and fortunately sticks to the few proven facts.

Nevertheless, and this is to Bryson´s credit, he paints a fascinating picture of everyday life in the Elizabethan age and puts most of Shakespeare lore into perspective without creating any new myths of his own. An immensely readable and informative biography.
